Marketers Get Down to Business with Google Search, Plus Your World

After analyzing the obvious (yes Google+ content is dominant on Google Search, Plus Your World) and discussing the legal ramifications (regulatory scrutiny is all but certain) marketers are now focusing on what Google Search, Plus Your World means for their strategies.

Harder to Find You

When personalized results are the default, it will be harder to determine rankings, writes Erin Everhart is the director of web and social media marketing at 352 Media Group, for Mashable.

"It'll also be harder for your customers to find you, and for you to get traffic from the same ranking because more often than not, Google+ results will be appearing before public listings."

Her solution: go along with the program, Google's program that is.

Create a brand page on Google+, and be an active member. Also, get your Google+ brand page into as many influential people’s circles as possible.

Email Marketing More Important

One interesting byproduct from Search Plus Your World is that email marketing will become more important, writes Marcus Taylor, head of social media at SEOptimise.  "Email marketing will become increasingly important due to the power it has to encourage desired actions, such as social shares," he says.

More Metrics, Information

The new Google search function will also give marketers a new metric to track for social media, blogs Melissa Parrish at Forrester.

"Google will be surfacing your brand’s Google+ social content directly into personalized results, for consumers who’ve added you to their circles. These search results may also include content that a consumer’s friends posted about you. That means qualified clicks on your social content—and that means possibly tracking how much search traffic you generate to your own sites through social marketing."
