The courting of desktop search firm Copernic by search-marketing provider Mamma.com is on again, reported ClickZ last week. Following an SEC investigation and a drop in Mamma's stock price, Copernic backed out of the previous deal in April, a month before it was expected to close. The new deal would likely close by late September.
Mamma.com runs a meta-search engine, a paid search listings network and a pay-per-click ad network. Copernic offers an ad-supported version of its desktop search tool and would add that technology and distribution network to Mamma. It would bring to Mamma an alliance with America Online as well.
