A Bigfoot Interactive survey, details carried by MediaPost, indicated that 57 percent perceived a reduction in the amount of spam they received in 2004 relative to 2003. Unfortunately, about the same proportion of people said they've since been infected with some variant of spyware. One problem surfacing is "false positives," where desired and sometimes important emails get put into junk folders by over-zealous anti-spam algorithms. More than half of email users regularly check their spam filter folders to make sure they haven't missed an important message.
