MailChimp has integrated an RSS-to-email feature in its email marketing platform. The service enables clients to include social media links for sharing posts, right out of their email messages.
"RSS has established itself as a great delivery tool for distributing information, but for many, email is still the preferred way to receive important updates," the company stated.
Corroborating this, a recent study found that young adults (ages 18-34) prefer email marketing messages to social network ads. But as consumers buckle down in the face of economic hardship, marketers have also stepped up their email efforts, making once-willing users increasingly unreceptive to the medium — mainly because offers aren't tailored to their needs.
"Our new feature is essentially one-stop publishing for bloggers, enabling them to send email campaigns directly from RSS, without even having to log in to our service," said CEO Ben Chestnut of MailChimp.
In addition to link inclusions for sharing an email message across Facebook, digg and other social media sites, MailChimp enables marketers to personalize each message with a first and last name, and match emails to the look and feel of their marketing blogs.
RSS-to-email also enables clients to translate campaigns into any of 35 languages, courtesy of Google Translate.
