Totals 2012 Versus 2011
2012 was a terrible year for magazines. Again. Publishers Information Bureau reported that 72 percent of tracked publications saw ad page decreases, the average being 8.2 percent.
Hardest hit were women's books. More targeted publications, such as Ebony and People en Espanol actually saw increases.
The revenue picture wasn't quite as dire. The average decline was 2.9 percent, although ad pages are thought to be a more accurately measured metric, especially in down times when many magazines are selling off ratecard.
