McDonalds, testing m-Venue
in Chicago.
Soon, the Fonzies of the world will need only whip out their iPhones to get the jukebox going in the local diner.
Akoo International has spent six years developing m-Venue, an interactive entertainment platform for restaurants, retailers and other venues that allows people to use their phones as remote controls to activate in-store entertainment, according to MediaPost.
The service currently has Apple iPhone, Safari browser and Microsoft Windows Mobile support, and entertainment offerings include music, courtesy of a deal with Sony BMG and Universal Music Group; as well as videos, sports clips, trivia questions and pre-approved user-generated content.
The system will also allow venues to text message coupons and other marketing materials to those who opt in. For example, McDonalds could send participants a coupon for a $1 off a cup of coffee as a thank-you for interacting with the system.
The system targets the 13-to-24-year-old market "because these are the people whose thumbs get itchy if they can't do something with their cell phone," James McQuivey, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research told MediaPost.
