CNET: Lycos to silence chatting
Lycos will shutter its chat rooms in February, much like Microsoft did this past fall outside the U.S. and Canada. Lycos will delete all content. A statement said the company made the decision to focus on other projects.
While chat applications created much impression inventory, advertisers generally found it performed poorly, and would pay only very low prices for it. At the same time chat issue sometimes clogged the legal departments of the portals, especially in countries with little speech protection and lots of national bias in the judiciary.
