ClickZ: Lycos Debuts Social Sharing Platform
Lycos announced it is delivering on plans to move from portal to a "Lycos Circles" social network structure, providing blogging, networking, and publishing tools to members so that they can better stay connected to one another. They plan to run contextual ads on some of the pages - which ones haven't been determined yet - through both Google and their own proprietary systems. Lycos was sold this summer to a South Korean firm. It earlier in the year had taken down its chat rooms, in part because the social space drove only the lowest of ad rates, but also because the direct user interaction had caused several lawsuits.
