Lycos Europe is rebranding itself for the U.S. market, where the once-popular portal will launch as Jubii.
Jubii will combine search, email, chat, photo and file storage, phone texting, blogging, internet phoning and other services, the New York Times reports. Lycos Europe expects to officially launch Jubii later this month.
Lycos, a separate entity sold to Daum of South Korea, owns the Lycos trademark in the United States, so the European portal cannot use that name in the U.S.
But the European company has used the Lycos name to create an online portal in Europe that boasts over 31 million users. Jubii is Lycos Europe's Danish search and community business.
