In league with Jobs
Independent studio Lionsgate has cut a deal with Apple to include iTunes Digital Copy files on DVD and Blu-ray releases of its films.
The files enable users to port films onto iTunes for use on a Mac, PC, iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV, according to PC World.
Lionsgate will launch the special edition DVD and Blu-ray release of "Rambo" and "The Eye" with the iTunes files in May and summer respectively, with plans to launch other iTunes-ready films later this year.
Files can be transferred by inserting a Lionsgate DVD into a computer and entering a code into iTunes. The movie is automatically copied to the iTunes library. DVDs can only be transferred to one iTunes library.
Lionsgate is the second film studio to form such a relationship with Apple. In January, Twentieth Century Fox made a similar announcement.
