Microsoft has been pointing to its own efforts to incorporate such features into its Windows operating system, but it's web search efforts have proved inadequate to date and its major operating system upgrade has been put off for years. Several third party developers have plans to introduce desktop hard drive search applications, and rumors have been about for months that Google may make just such a desktop play itself.
