Infiltrating a real life near you
Linden Labs, the operator Second Life, is looking to make it easier to access the virtual world through real-world gadgets, reports The Boston Globe.
Linden is working on developing ways for users to use hand-held or wearable devices that untether Second Life access from the PC. These devices will also more fully immerse people into the virtual world, allowing them to control avatars through their real-life movements and environment.
Cell phones are likely to be the first such bridge, acting as sensors that pipe real world actions into Second Life. But as the amount of data increases, more efficient methods of transmission will need to be utilized, something Linden Labs is also currently working on.
