Gandalf
The latest massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) will bring J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle-earth to life in April, reports Reuters.
The game is already causing dissent among fans of the novels who know the myriad details of the trilogy. Game publishers Turbine Inc. and Midway Games Inc. have attempted to assure fans that the game recreates the vast world while remaining true to the spirit of the books.
Turbine, which has a licesnse to Tolkien's literary works, will allow players to create characters based on the four "good" races - humans, elves, dwarves and hobbits - to battle the forces of evil.
However, they will not be able to play any of the main roles, like the wizard Gandalf; instead, players will take on a supporting role to the Fellowship of the Ring by accomplishing quests and battling evil armies.
