Last.fm, a social online radio site owned by CBS, unveiled a cleaner website with more user-friendly features.
Last.fm enables users to stream music from a wide catalog, both provided to Last.fm by labels and by independent artists. A downloadable syncing program also updates user profiles with whatever they listened to on iTunes. Musical compatibility with friends is rated by how often users listen to songs by the same artists or genres.
Since the site's redesign, users can add songs or artists to their libraries with a single action. They can also post live music recommendations. Personal music charts will be updated instantaneously to reflect current songs on the spin.
This week Last.fm released an iPhone-ready application. And it inked a partnership with Logitech, providing listeners access to Last.fm via personal stereos.
CBS acquired Last.fm for $280 million last year. The site recently launched a royalty payment program for independent musicians.
