Classics don't die; they just evolve
MSNBC.com has just launched NewsBreaker Live, a giant game that turns the collective movements of moviegoers to an L.A. theater into an on-screen media paddle, reports ZDnet.
Newsbreaker Live uses a motion-sensitive camera mounted in front of the theater to measure how the audience moves its arms. Based on their location in the theater, audiences control a paddle at the bottom of the screen for hitting MSNBC.com headlines in a Breakout-type game. Players who hit 25 such headlines with their paddle earn another life.
The game is running in the place of ads that typically appear before film previews. Its purpose is to draw more traffic to the MSNBC.com website.
MSNBC.com worked with SS+K to launch the game, which will tour to Philadelphia and White Plains, New York. The technology behind the game was developed at Carnegie Mellon University.
