NetRatings Press Release (PDF): Kids Account For One Out of Five Internet Surfers in the U.S.

Nielsen//NetRatings reports there are 27 million kids ages 2 to 17 online with 12 million of those between the ages of 2 and 11. Surprisingly, the city ranking highest in percent of kids online is Salt Lake City. Perhaps they are going online to escape the much-stereotyped conservative nature of that city. The number one destination for kids 2 to 11 is DivaStarz.com, and the top site for kids 12-17 is Originalicons.com.

An Opinion Research Corporation study found the number one item kids 12 to 17 spend their money on is clothing. For kids 2 to 11, it's - not surprisingly - toys.
