Katrina.com Now Home for Finding Missing Loved Ones

Until this week, Katrina.com, established seven years ago, was the home of "Web sites with personality," operated by Katrina Blankenship; it has now become a place to look for family and loved ones missing in what is likely the worst natural disaster in U.S. history, writes the Daily World of Opelousas, Louisiana, as reported in USA Today (via Techdirt). "I said OK, this is what I have the talent to do," Blankenship said. "I posted as much information as I could, and by Tuesday, the phone calls were pouring in…people asking me if I could post about a family member missing. For every 10 I posted, 20 more came in."

The site, which some scam artists have tried to take away from its rightful owner, now runs a message board that has added hundreds of posts in a few days, many that begin with "missing family," "I'm looking for my son," or "I can help."

Blankenship has turned down a $5,000 offer for the domain name and has had to deal with someone impersonating a member of Federal Emergency Management Agency who told her she had to give up the site.
