CNET reports number four search firm Ask Jeeves started talks with the Mozilla Foundation to possibly put out an Ask Jeeves branded browser based on Firefox. To work with Mozilla, Ask Jeeves would likely have to contribute some technology of its own to the open source foundation, thus rendering it usable to other search competitors. Among the topics discussed were creating an open source desktop search application (presumably based on Ask Jeeve's recent Tukaroo purchase) and some form of merging of Ask Jeeves and Mozilla programming interface. An Ask Jeeves executive characterized Mozilla's responses as open minded but noncommittal.
