Using an Iowa law that allows spam victims to recover $10 per spam message, an ISP successfully sued three firms for a total of about $1 billion, according to Silicon.com. The ISP sued 300 spammers for the roughly 10 million emails a day they allegedly sent in 2000. A federal judge, applying forum law, ordered Arizona firm AMP Dollar Savings and two florida companies: Cash Link Systems and TEI Marketing Group to pay amounts ranging from $140,000 to $720 million. The ISP's attorneys aren't optimistic about collecting the judgment, although one did express his hope that his client would be able to collect at least enough to pay legal costs.
