IPTV Offers Choice, Control, Personalization

Despite the increasing popularity of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), 46 percent of the 6,000 consumers surveyed across France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S. did not understand the term IPTV, in a recent poll commissioned by consultancy Accenture, NetImperative (U.K.) writes (via MediaBuyerPlanner). However, the poll revealed that a market exists in each country for the services provided by IPTV, which delivers broadcast-quality digital television over an internet-enabled telephone network.

Of the total respondents 30 percent wanted more movie access, 26 percent wanted to create their own channel and 55 percent wanted less advertising.

"Despite a general lack of understanding about what IPTV means, there is strong consumer interest in the benefits that such a service could bring," said Ray Dogra, global IPTV lead for Accenture's Communications & High Tech practice. "Consumers clearly desire choice, control and the ability to personalize their viewing experience - all of which are the key benefits of an IPTV service."

Respondents chose cost, security issues and service quality as the main barriers to adoption.
