Interview from Editor & Publisher Online: All Aboard CSMonitor.com!
E&P Online has posted an interview with Karla Vallance, the Electronic Publishing Managing Editor of CSMontitor.com. Vallance oversees a staff of 11.5 and has helped build their readership to 1.5 million Web visitors per month (while the print edition only has about 70,000 subscribers). This interview shows us one 'local paper' that gets the internet, and gives us a small window into that phenomenon.
It helps that the Web and print teams live in the same newsroom and report to the same editor, Paul Van Slambrouck. The Web team is now part of long-range story planning, and cooperation is better than it ever has been. So while csmonitor.com is a tight team of its own, it also belongs to the bigger Monitor family. Some reporters are hungry to know pageview counts of their stories, and thrive on the e-mail response from online readers.
The impact of this article for marketers is that in the future, as people like Vallance share their insight of 'what works and what doesn't work' with more and more peers on the publishing side, we as marketers will get better and better plaftorms for our messages to their readers.
