Internet Retailer announced its Top 50 Best of the Web online retailing websites for 2006. Not necessarily "the biggest, the most profitable or the best known—they are the sites that innovate to take online retailing to the next level," according to Kurt T. Peters, editor of Internet Retailer. The sites range from Amazon.com to Musicnotes.com, which sells sheet music, and TheFruitCompany.com, a third-generation family-owned orchard in Oregon.
The selected sites fall under seven categories: specialty/apparel & accessories, computers/electronics/CDs/DVDs, flowers/gifts/jewelry, food/drug/beauty, housewares/home furnishings, mass merchants/department stores, and specialty/non-apparel.
