List brokerage ParadyszMatera's most recent list universe report found that consumer catalog lists lead other consumer file types in year-over-year growth, writes DM News (via MediaBuyerPlanner). "Overall, the combined universe for consumer catalogs stood at 166.5 million for 4Q 2005, up 2.95 million names, or 1.8 percent, from 4Q 2004," said ParadyszMatera, New York, vice-president of research and analysis, Glenn Lalich. Online shopping helped expand the lists.
According to Lalich, "some of the merchandise category's relative strength stems from Internet-generated names - either from mailers finally releasing these names to the rental market, increased web and multichannel sales, or both."
Top individual category companies included Coldwater Creek Spirit taking apparel, Horchow Home topping home, and Music Stand ruling gifts/collectibles. Those companies with the highest growth included apparel category's L.L. Bean and the home category's Domestications. The largest last-12-month files remained the same in 4Q 2005 as in 3Q 2005: Victoria's Secret led apparel, Pottery Barn led home, and Collections Etc. topped gifts/collectibles.
