InterActiveCorp Buys Social Network, Creates Experimental Department

BusinessWeek: Diller's Latest Little Bet on the Net

With the acquisition of business-targeted social networking site ZeroDegrees.com, InterActiveCorp (IAC) seems to believe there's actual business value to this social software craze. After all, IAC has so far acquired tried and true online businesses involving such features as revenues and profits. Expedia, Ticketmaster and LendingTree have been among its targets, so it seems unlikely the group would have a bout of dot-com craze now.

That said, this is clearly meant as an experiment, as ZeroDegrees will be part of a separate department, dubbed InterActive Development, dedicated to new businesses.
