Getting smaller and smarter
Presenting at the Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco this week, Intel unveiled a computer chip intended for mobile internet devices from Apple and other manufacturers.
Code-named Silverthone, the low-power processor architecture is designed for ultra-mobile and mobile internet devices, reports AppleInsider.
The chips will also be capable of running the same apps that Core 2 Duo-based notebook PCs run on, advancing mobile closer to non-mobile-tailored internet offerings.
Intel anticipates the first production-quality units will be shipped in Q2 this year.
