Intel Gets Serious about '3D Web,' Acquires Second Life Software

Intel in Second Life

Intel, the world's largest maker of computer chips, has acquired Havok, a provider of software and services used by game developers, reports Metaversed.

Havok's 3D software is employed in virtual worlds such as Second Life and console games like Bioshock, Halo 2, and Half Life 2. Intel calls Havok "a key element of Intel's visual computing and graphics efforts."

This, coupled with the knowledge that Intel CTO Justin Rattner's keynote speech will be about the "Rise of the 3D Internet" at this year's Fall Intel Developer Forum, points to the company preparing for the next dimension.
