Inktomi v9 Pushes Paid Inclusion and Local Targeting

Press Release: Inktomi Unveils Web Search 9
Product Description: Web Search 9

Inktomi just announced "Web Search 9: the next generation of its OEM Web search service" (hope they paid their PR folks big bucks for that great jargon), a revised version of its search algorithm (unlike Google, which gets more press by keeping its features secret), along with new editorial and "paid inclusion" services. The primary new paid inclusion feature is geo-targeting based on IP addresses.

Paid inclusion is all the rage these days in the world of search marketing: the indexing a commerce site's catalog into the search database in exchange for revenue share on traffic conversions. At @d:tech, two vendors specialized in paid inclusion had booths at the exhibition hall: Quigo and PositionTech.
