- Adap.tv launched OneSource, the first "universal" video ad platform for multi-site video publishers.
- Broadband Enterprises has signed on as the exclusive provider of video overlay ads to ScanScout.
- Behavioral targeting firm Phorm could run afoul of online security firms if they decide Phorm's cookies are adware. So far, no one has made that claim.
- Gorilla Nation debuted the "Midtail Toolbox" for online marketers. It includes integrated redesigns, social networking "enablers," branded interactives, a Springboard video platform, and product placement assistance.
Agencies and Execs:
- Tom Dempsey was named director of digital investment at WPP Group's GroupM. He is responsible for dealing with suppliers in GroupM's network.
- Linden Labs, creator of Second Life, found a new CEO in ex-Organic head Mark Kingdon.
- Goodby, Silverstein & Partners won the "Best Microsite" Innovative Advertising Award for their "Milk Get the Glass" site.
Campaigns of Note:
- A web campaign for Kellogg Co. from Starcom used "cost-per-interaction" as the key metric for the ads they placed on sites.
- The group behind "Got milk?" thinks a new site, with games and other engagement tools, will revive the long-running campaign.
- Advocacy groups on both sides of the political divide are spending big on online display ads as they rally respective constituencies.

- Nokia signed Sony BMG as its second major label, following Universal Music Group, to provide music to its upcoming Comes With Music handsets.
- Microsoft's Tellme is bringing voice search to Blackberry users with an application that lets people query movie, traffic and local business info.
- Burger King will be promoting the launch of BK City, a package of casual, branded mobile games.
Online Ad Market:
- The Kelsey Group says spend on online classifieds and in vertical ad networks will hit $14.7 billion by 2012, accounting for a quarter of all online ad dollars.
Online Content:
- Video community technology provider Paltalk will broadcast Radio America programming live into online communities.
- TBS will stream a limited amount of Seinfeld episodes online on a rotating basis. It will sell pre-roll and other inventory within them.
- Microsoft is honking people off with plans to stop providing DRM keys for songs bought through its MSN Music storefront, which means some people may lose music they've paid for if they don't back it up carefully.
- StarMedia is launching a Spanish-language online channel that pipes news and entertainment from across the globe.
Traditional Media:
- CBS Outernet, Zoom Media and Arena Media Networks are joining the Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau.
- Nielsen will begin providing "pocketpieces," small easy-to-digest chunks of ratings information, for out-of-home video ad networks.
Search:
- Yahoo is introducing a report to show advertisers which clicks its system automatically discards, an effort to enhance a sense of transparency.
- Wikipedia has improved its homepage search tool.
Social Networking:
- Photo sharing site Photobucket has finally released an API, which it hopes will increase (diminishing) adoption.
- Facebook completed a rollout of its native chat function, which is now available to everyone on its network.
- Microsoft has introduced Live Mesh, a central hub where people can connect Microsoft's software products on PCs, online and via mobile.
User Experience:
- American Express has launched MembersKnow, a community where travelers share favorite restaurants, travel tips and more with other cardholders.
- Sometime today, StumbleUpon, a Firefox plugin, will register its five millionth user. It has so far served five billion stumbles — or random referrals to websites — based on user interests.
Virtual Worlds:
- Sony is delaying the release of its PlayStation Home virtual world, but is expanding the number of people invited to the beta this fall.
