DeWolfe departs MySpace

Ad Networks and Analytics:

  • Gannett Co. formed the Digital Media Network, an ad network for its proprietary web destinations, including USAToday.com and broadcast property sites.

Agencies and Marketing Execs:

  • AdMeld appointed Alan Davison as CFO and Joe Pedro as Director-Quality of Service.
  • Pizza Hut is seeking a Twitter intern.

Biz Buzz:

  • Hulu and the Big 4 music labels are pursuing a music video venture.
  • eBay inked an agreement with PartnerCentric to manage its 100,000 affiliates.

Overseas:

  • European telecom Orange and the Wikimedia Foundation have inked an agreement. Orange will seed relevant Wikipedia links and content through mobile and web-based widgets; the pair will also develop new services for mobile, the 'net and TV that "[draw] on Orange's skills as a total communications provider," according to a statement from both companies.

Social Networks:

  • Facebook is supposedly exploring the possibility of selling vanity URLs to users. Some celebrities and high-profile users were given their own profile URLs at no charge.
  • An in-depth study of what's going on in Twitter users' minds reveals surprising motivations behind common behavior on the microblogging site.
  • Facing pressure over MySpace's slow decline in social networking dominance, CEO/co-founder Chris DeWolfe is resigning. Ex-CRO Owen Van Natta is a contender for the now-open role. Meanwhile, co-founder Tom Anderson will adopt a new role in the company.
  • Us Weekly sold sponsorship of its Facebook fan page to State Farm. This is supposedly a first for a media company on a socnet.
  • Muslim social network Muxlim inked a cross-promo deal with Shoes.com and ChangeTheStory.net.
