Firefox's share of the browser market in Europe stands at more than 10 percent, and in some countries as high as 15 and 20 percent (Germany and Finland, respectively), according to a study by German firm ADTECH AG. In France and the U.K., Firefox's share stands at 9.3 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively. Internet Explorer continues to dominate the continent with more than 85 percent share of the market.
Interestingly, banner advertising click rates are the lowest among Firefox users at .12 percent, with the European average at .27 percent, according to ADTECH figures. The highest rates were among Internet Explorer users, ranging from .28 percent for version 6.x to .48 percent for users of IE 5.5.
The German firm reports that overall European click rates, which had declined from .33 percent in November 2004 to .23 percent in March 2005, rose to .27 in the first two weeks of June.
The market share numbers vary somewhat from those earlier released by a French firm, which nevertheless indicated a similar upward trend in the use of the open-source browser.
