Europe has overtaken North America as the second-largest broadband market in the world, and dial-up will all but disappear in the major European markets within the next five years, reports eMarketer, citing a new report. According to Strategy Analytics' "Europe Surges Ahead on Broadband," Europe is second to only the Asia-Pacific region as the largest broadband market in the world.
The report predicts that total broadband household penetration in Western Europe will reach 63 percent by 2010, when 93 percent of online households will be using broadband to access the internet. By the end of this year, the Netherlands will lead all European countries with 56 percent household penetration, followed by Switzerland and Denmark.
