Steve Ballmer, CEO of the world's largest software company, said consumers who make online purchases have become too complacent about the risks of fraud and stolen identity. Ballmer told the AP that a period of online calm has lulled users into thinking all's well online. Ballmer and other tech executives who are part of the Business Software Alliance were in Washington to meet with congressional leaders and members of the Cabinet to lobby over internet security, foreign trade and protections against software piracy. One executive urged the Supreme Court not to allow expanded copyright lawsuits against manufacturers of file-sharing software popular for downloading music and movies over the internet. A decision in the case is expected in coming weeks. The executives said future technologies - whether computers, wireless handheld devices, video game systems or television sets - will be able to offer up information important to consumers. "I want to be able to see what I need to see whether I'm on my PC or at my TV," Ballmer said.
