At the Consumer Electronics Show, Yahoo unveiled its big jump into mobile with plans for improved local maps and custom content from news, sports, weather, and entertainment partners.
Go for Mobile, the newest version of Yahoo's mobile content platform, will hit Blackberries, Motorola Smartphones and some Samsung and Nokia handhelds. The key enhancement is oneSearch, which improves on mobile search technology, ultimately requiring less mobile web surfing for users, reports AdWeek.
The move is a chance for Yahoo to overtake Google on the infamous third screen. Last year, Yahoo's stock plummeted 35 percent as a result of being pummeled by Google in web search. Yahoo now hopes to take the fight to Google in the mobile arena.
Spending on mobile ads is expected to rise to about $1.5 billion this year and at least double in size by 2010, according to MSNBC. Google and Yahoo both have their eyes on this fast-growing ad market.
