CNET: ICANN Asks VeriSign to Pull Redirect Service
ICAAN, occasionally criticized for moving slowly in its regulation and oversight of domain names, has redeemed itself by asking VeriSign to stop high-jacking incorrectly entered Internet addresses. This seems to be a fair request since, logically, if an incorrect address is entered it should not go anywhere. That's the clearest and most honest method of indicating to someone they have made an error. Verisign has used its grasp on Internet servers to redirect users to its own pages. Microsoft has done so as well.
Business practices such as these call into question a company's motivation behind there move. Just because a company has control over Internet traffic does not mean it should use that for its own business advantage
