IAC Purchases Teen Site Starnet

InterActive Corp. (IAC) has purchased StarNet Interactive, the parent company of boutique tween site GirlSense.com.

StarNet will be integrated into IAC's Consumer Applications and Portals division, where will likely help improve IAC's Zwinky offering.

GirlSense is a boutique dress-up site for girls of 9-14 years old; Zwinky lets users build avatars for use on other social networks. They can also interact in a virtual world called Zwinktopia.

Zwinky serviced six million unique users in March (via The Blogging Times), due primarily to the avatars' ability to drive traffic back from other sites. GirlSense, which has 13 million registered users, averages one million uniques per month.

The GirlSense revenue model includes exclusive ad relationships, as well as inventory sold and managed by the Glam Media Network.
