Barry Diller of IAC looks to be in the process of creating a “content farm,” seeking writers for IAC properties.
IAC’s Pronto has launched The Writers Network, a site looking for people to write short how-to articles for between $10 and $25, according to AdAge.
The articles seem, for the moment, to mostly be designed for IAC site Home and Garden Ideas, which is managed by comparison-shopping engine Pronto.
Pronto gets 13.7 million monthly visitors, according to IAC. An insider has said that Pronto hopes the new writer’s network will help it acquire more traffic.
Barry Diller has recently given up control of IAC, though he will remain as chairman. Greg Blatt, CEO of IAC property Match.com, will take over for Diller as CEO.
Content farms, some of which have been built to specifically create content based on what people are searching for on the internet, have upset traditional journalists and angered mainstream publishers, even as they draw large, mainstream audiences, writes Adweek.
