How to Work with a Guest Blogger
Inviting someone - an expert or influencer in your space - to post a guest blog is one of several ways to bring new traffic to a fledging site, writes SocialMediaExplorer. Just make sure that you have an understanding of certain issues before the post runs, says marketing professional Heidi Cohen. Cohen's list of twelve points to discuss include topic (who chooses the post topic, the writer or the blog owner?), post length, timing, content (original or repurposed), keywords (should they include specific keywords or not), links and so on. Read her post here for more details.
Most definitely pay attention to the last item: IP rights. "Who owns the guest authored content? Do you require that writers sign a release? How long until they can republish the article elsewhere?" Important questions that, again, need to be answered before the post runs.
How to Ramp Up Newsletter Content
In a guest post (see above) for Blue Sky Factory, Matt Krautstrunk, offers advice on building out content for a newsletter. This includes short and concise content ("If your readers open an email with 2,000 words they are going to panic and most likely close out of your email"), links (the more the better) and a post that solves a problem.
