How to: Create and manage test users with Facebook | Submit URLs to Google with Fetch as Googlebot

How to Create and Manage Test Users with Facebook

Facebook has introduced new functionality for developers to create and add test users to an app from the developer site. Test users are invisible user accounts associated with an app created for the purpose of testing its functionality, Chris Dentel explains in this blog post - in short, they are not visible to others on Facebook. The programmatic interface to create a test user has been available since November, but Facebook have now built a simple user interface within the Developer App, Dentel says.

To get started, go to the Roles page on the Developer App. A new role, "Test Users," has been added. Click the "Add" link in the Test Users section to create, Dentel writes. In the "Add New Test Users" dialog, specify the number of test users to add. Then, you will be taken to the “Manage Test Users” page, where a number of fields are available for editing. To begin using the app as a test user, click on the "Switch To" link.

How to Submit URLs to Google with Fetch as Googlebot

The Fetch as Googlebot feature in Webmaster Tools now provides a way to submit new and updated URLs to Google for indexing. After you fetch a URL as Googlebot, if it is successful, the users will see the option to submit that URL to Google’s index. When you submit a URL in this way Googlebot will crawl the URL, usually within a day, Google writes.

"We'll then consider it for inclusion in our index. Note that we don’t guarantee that every URL submitted in this way will be indexed; we'll still use our regular processes—the same ones we use on URLs discovered in any other way—to evaluate whether a URL belongs in our index."

To submit a URL, use Diagnostics > Fetch As Googlebot to fetch the URL you want to submit to Google. If the URL is successfully fetched you’ll see a new “Submit to index” link appear next to the fetched URL, Google explains.

Once you click “Submit to index” you’ll see a dialog box that allows you to choose whether you want to submit only the one URL, or that URL and all its linked pages.
