Microsoft is continuing to push Hotmail onto the mobile device—all mobile devices. On the heels of its recent release of iOS5 and a Hotmail application for Android it is rolling out an app for Kindle Fire.
The Hotmail Kindle app offers several advantages over the native Kindle Fire mail application, Microsoft says. The native Kindle application downloads mail via POP3; the new Hotmail app syncs all mail, contacts, folders, and subfolders via the more robust Exchange Active Sync protocol.
Microsoft has made a number of tweaks to Hotmail in recent months, beyond mobilizing it. In December 2011, it made the ramped up version fully available. This included several features not so welcome by marketers, including a one-click unsubscribe button.
