Comcast and Sony plan to offer an on-demand cable, internet and wireless network featuring horror films, reports Reuters. The launch will be on Halloween and will showcase films from among the thousand-plus horror titles in the Sony and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer libraries. Sony and investors, including Comcast, acquired the MGM studio last year, saying they planned to create new cable and internet networks.
Starting with horror films was a "no-brainer" because of the "emotional connection" of such films, Diane Robina, president of Comcast's emerging networks, told Reuters. "It's about scaring the heck out of you."
Like Comcast's kids network Sprout, the horror network will be advertising supported and available on-demand. Comcast plans to eventually offer movies for download via its website.
