Homer and Family, and Ads, to Invade MySpace Profiles

News Corp. may soon allow its MySpace members to embed Fox TV shows and other Fox video on their homepages, marking a huge step toward generating greater ad revenue from the world's largest social-networking site, writes Business Week.

Putting Fox video on MySpace profile pages would create a vast amount of ad inventory and could be a significant source of revenue for Fox Interactive Media, which had been expected to generate about $500 million in revenue this year - only a small part of News Corp.'s $25 billion-plus annual revenue stream.

News Corp.'s decision reflects a trend in media to distribute content, and ads, across large groups, such as user communities rather than through major web destinations and portals.

Fox already allows MySpace members to view its shows streamed at a site within MySpace, www.myspace.com/fox, and announced on March 1 that it would allow users to buy shows and videos on a separate site.
