SITE: Mobile Entertainment Goes Hollywood
With hyper sales of cheap, color screen phones and an infrastructure that can support content downloads, the mobile entertainment business is growing beyond ringtones, song clips, and simple games. Traditional media and entertainment companies are looking at wireless as the next big distribution channel, with 1.4 billion mobile subscribers.
Studios have begun to embrace mobile phones as another potentially lucrative distribution channel for their content. While some, like Disney, have created their own mobile-entertainment divisions, the majority have licensed their brands to specialized mobile-entertainment companies with names like Mforma and Jamdat Mobile.
