Hitwise: Web Searches May Presage American Idol Vote

Reality show American Idol's share of web searches for its three finalists - Carrie Underwood, Vonzell Solomon and Bo Bice - increased 76 percent in the past month (week ending May 14 versus week ending April 16), reports Hitwise. More importantly (in this context, anyway), search volume for specific contestants likely correlates with audience affinity with them, reports Hitwise. The search term "carrie underwood" accounted for 52 percent of the searches on the three final contestants, followed by "vonzell solomon" with 25 percent and "bo bice" with 24 percent (the week ending May 14, 2005). The searches for Underwood and Solomon increased 41 percent and 76 percent, respectively, from the prior week. Those for Bice decreased 35 percent.
