Hearst has announced it will buy e-commerce recommendation site Kaboodle, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Hearst plans to integrate the site into its stable of magazines. That would include creating pages for items featured from those magazines, as well as plans to introduce product pages to advertisers.
There's speculation that the deal could make social shopping sites the next targets of corporate buy-ups. Conde Nast, which currently uses Kaboodle, has been building up Style.com's functionality with similar interests. Other independent sites could also become acquisition targets.
The price of the acquisition was not disclosed.
Kaboodle works by acting as a clearinghouse for consumer recommendations for products they've bought. The site makes money through advertising on the site, as well as via affiliate deals with e-tailers.
