Business executives trust and rely on traditional media over new media sources, according to a new study, writes BtoB Online. Only 21 percent of business executives say they rely heavily on independent sources such as internet chat rooms, blogs or other alternative media to get news and information. Instead, 87 percent say they have a defined set of news sources that provide fair and balanced coverage - and they ignore other sources.
Also, 75 percent say they trust news shows on public television or National Public Radio; 78 percent say they trust national newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal; and 59 percent say they trust commercial broadcast news, including network TV, cable and commercial radio.
The Harris Interactive and Public Relations Society for America Foundation study was based on phone surveys with 1,015 consumers; 150 Fortune 1,000 executives; and 150 senior congressional staffers.
