iMedia: Avoid Email Blacklists
A Return Path executive gave a quick guide to making sure that email newsletters don't get blacklisted with various ISPs. Matt Blumberg stressed in particular the ability of a small number of subscribers can cause havoc by clicking on the "this is spam" button, sending the signal to the ISP to block the same emails to thousands of others. Sometimes this happens because the user finds it easier to hit the spam button than to drag the message to the trash. The best of the tips: "Ask people to reply to your email, which will allow your HTML to work properly at AOL, MSN and a host of other email readers, and will add you to the "approved sender" list for those using AOL 9.0."
