Groxis Grocks Google Garbage

San Jose Mercury News: More refined search tool out today

Can a new sorting method of search results weed out the "garbage" results? For some searchers it can. A new front end sorter for search engine results, Groxis, launches officially today. The front end categorizes results for searchers, which can be helpful, particularly for general searches.

The example given in the Merc article is actually humorous, as the example keyword used is "Paris," and anyone living outside a man-sized hole in the ground knows that one category that should probably be listed is "Paris Hilton." (No, that's not the hotel.)

It turns out that categorization works, but for the "stupid" searches that can be found topping all the top-searched terms lists. For the "smart" searches that seek high specificity or subtlety, much is to be desired.
