Google is launching new test versions of Google Toolbar for consumers and enterprise users, who will be able to create custom buttons for running search queries on any website directly from the toolbar, reports CNET. Google Toolbar 4.0 will also allow developers to use a new XML application-programming interface to create more advanced buttons. New features include suggestions that appear as users type a query and the ability to create and save bookmarks online (accessible from other computers) as well as share web pages with others, writes Search Engine Watch.
The buttons can be customized to display feeds and headlines or other information from a website. The sharing features allow sending web pages, or portions of them, via email (through Gmail), text message (SMS), or a Blogger-powered blog.
The Google toolbar is available in the U.S., in English, for Internet Explorer. Google plans to make it available in 16 languages by the end of the quarter and will eventually release a Firefox version.
