Google to Receive Russian 'Offer It Cannot Refuse'

Google is eyeing Russia's new IT park in St. Petersburg, where it may set up operations employing as many as 3,000 workers, according to a senior official in Russia's IT and Communications Ministry, reports the Moscow Times (via Search Engine Lowdown). Google apparently declined to comment on the issue, but confirmed its interest in Russia's IT market.

Saying Google "seemed very keen on the idea," Deputy IT and Communications Minister Dmitry Milovantsev is quoted as saying that to draw large technology companies to IT parks, Russia's authorities will "make an offer [these companies] cannot refuse."

A draft bill on IT parks - special economic zones intended to boost investment in technology - was approved by the State Duma and now needs the Federation Council approval and President Vladimir Putin's signature to go into effect.
