Google Tests Program for Text Ads in Print Pubs

According to rumors this week, Google will be placing ads in a Chicago newspaper in a new pilot project - Google Publication Ads - that allows advertisers to buy print ads via Google, writes AdJab, citing a SearchEngineWatch post by Danny Sullivan, who writes that Google has confirmed a potential test of print ads in Chicago newspapers.

According to the login page for the test program, however, a range of publications is available for the all- (or mostly) text ads that advertisers would themselves create and submit for placement.

"Google Publication Ads enables you to place ads in print publications…. Use target demographics, circulation details or keywords to create a list of relevant publications. Compare each publication's details and pricing information to select the publication that's right for you," read the directions on the login page.

Earlier this year, Google was reported to have been testing the print ad market in an attempt to capture traditional advertising dollars, by buying display ad pages in tech magazines, including PC Magazine and Maximum PC, and reselling those pages, in quarters and fifths, to AdWords advertisers.
